Integrated Systems Model (ISM)

The integrated Systems Model (ISM), developed by Diane Lee, is a framework used to better understand how the body functions as an interconnected system. Often, the source of pain or dysfunction is not found at the location of symptoms alone. Instead, it may be related to how other areas of the body are moving, adapting, and working together.

At Calibrate Physiotherapy, ISM principles are used to guide a thorough assessment. This whole body approach helps to identify key factors contributing to pain, movement limitations or injuries.

Find the Primary Driver – Treat the Whole Person – Improve Daily Function

Treatment is tailored to address the underlying drivers of dysfunction and may include education, manual therapy, movement retraining and individualized exercise program. By Understanding how different regions of the body influence one another, treatment can be directed towards lasting improvements in function rather than simply managing symptoms.

The Integrated Systems Model is particularly helpful for individuals experiencing persistent pain, recurrent injuries, pelvic or low back dysfunction or complex conditions that have not fully responded to traditional treatment approaches.
